Frequently Asked Questions
Should I commission a drawing?
How much does a portrait cost?
Every portrait is bespoke and with so many possible variations, accurate prices are given by quotation. Variables that affect the cost of a commission include: portrait size; how many subjects are in the drawing; framing; if professional Giclée prints are included; and postage.
The following are included with each portrait for no extra cost:
- Beautiful time-lapse video of the drawing process
- Archive quality mount
- Gift-wrapping of the finished drawing
- Postage to UK mainland
Prices for a portrait of a single subject posted to the UK start from £349 for an A6 pet portrait and £429 for an A6 miniature of a person.

How long will my portrait take to arrive?
Emma can discuss lead times with you directly and is also happy to discuss any deadlines you may have. The approximate arrival date of your commission will be confirmed before drawing work even begins!
If you have a tight deadline that can’t be met Emma is able to provide a gift certificate which can be purchased directly through the shop. The gift recipient can then commission their portrait at a later date.
As an approximation, allow at least a month for your commission to arrive. Depending on the size of your commission, it may take between a couple of days and several weeks for the drawing process. Framing will add a few more days onto this, and then postage in addition to that (the further away from the UK you are based, the longer postage will take!).
What if I don’t like the finished drawing?
Emma will work with you from the very beginning of the commission process, firstly picking out the perfect photo with you. If you like the photo in question, then you will love the finished drawing as it will resemble it closely. Emma sends regular photo updates throughout the drawing process so you can watch your commission come to life, and she can discuss any questions or concerns you may have as the drawing unfolds.
Because the commissioning process involves regular updates from Emma, you can be confident throughout that you will be thrilled with the end result!
What if I change my mind?
Once payment has been made, Emma will confirm that you are happy for her to start work on your commission before drawing begins. Before work has begun Emma is able to give you a full refund! If you change your mind after drawing has begun, Emma is able to give you a partial refund, depending on how much time has been spent on the drawing.
Emma is not able to accept returns. However if you are unhappy with your portrait for any reason she will work with you until you are happy with the end result!
